The Culver-Stockton men's golf team captured its first tournament title of the 2015-16 campaign after winning its own Wildcat Fall Invitational Monday afternoon at Spring Lake Country Club in Quincy, Ill.
Meanwhile, the women's golf team placed second in the women's portion of the tournament, defeating four of the five teams it faced in the two-day event.
The men's team carded identical scores of 299 to finish the two-day event with a 22-over par 598, good for a one stroke victory over Lindenwood University-Belleville, which recorded a score of 23-over 599 (300-299). Quincy University placed third with a score of 59-over 635 (319-316), while Hannibal-LaGrange was fourth with a score of 82-over 658 (328-330).
Individually, C-SC's Zach Kuhlman-Pfeiffer shot a 1-under 143 (71-72) to place second overall, three strokes behind Lindenwood's Keith Murphy, who carded a 4-under 140 (68-72). The Wildcats' Hunter Baggett placed fifth overall with a two-day score of 6-over 150 (77-73).
Ryan Keller and Jon Roberson tied for eighth overall with scores of 10-over 154. Keller shot 75-79, while Roberson carded a 79-75. Drew Horner rounded out the top five Wildcat golfers with a 12th place finish with a score of 15-over 159.
Among the second five golfers for the Wildcats, Chace Burrus finished 15th overall with a score of 16-over 160 (83-77). Colton Neal placed 17th with a score of 20-over 164 (84-80), while Tyler Madill placed 28th with a score of 39-over 183 (91-92).
In the women's portion of the tournament, the Wildcats shot a 148-over 724 (363-361) to finish behind conference foe Baker University, which carded a two-day total of 121-over 697 (348-349). Mount Mercy was third with a score of 170-over 746, while Quincy University (278-over 854), Lindenwood-Belleville (283-over 859) and Hannibal-LaGrange (290-over 866) rounded out the field.
Individually, C-SC's Lucy Clark finished third with a two-day total of 20-over 164 (82-82), losing by one stroke to Baker's Lindsey Mateer and Mount Mercy's Meg Monson, who both carded 19-over 163. Mateer defeated Monson in a one-hole playoff to earn medalist honors.
Layne Ray turned in strong performance for the Wildcats, finishing seventh overall with a score of 30-over 174 (86-84), while Tara Bradley was 13th overall with a score of 45-over 189 (92-97). Haley Barraza tied for 18th with a score of 53-over 197 (101-96), and Jade Cheffy tied for 28th with a score of 77-over 221 (106-115),
The men return to action at the Evangel Fall Invitational at Rivercut Golf Club in Springfield, Mo., Sept. 28-29, while the women will participate in the Quincy University Fall Invitational at Spring Lake Country Club, Sept. 27-28 in Quincy, Ill.
