The mission of C-SC Athletic Training is to utilize the knowledge and expertise of its staff to provide appropriate athletic training services, given the available resources, for the safe and timely return of the student-athlete to physical activity.
Athletic Training Services:
Our athletic training program is housed within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and staffed by four certified athletic trainers (ATCs) under the direction of the C -SC team physician. Our expert staff offers more than 35 years of clinical experience at the intercollegiate athletic level. We provide a variety of health care services including, but not limited to, injury prevention, acute/emergency care, treatment, clinical evaluation/diagnosis, rehabilitation, psychosocial intervention, and physician referral.
Student-athletes are provided with a true medical continuum of care. If an athlete sustains an injury, he or she will have the available staff to clinically evaluate/diagnose the condition, refer that athlete for appropriate follow-up/physician care, be provided with consistent monitoring and competent care during treatment or rehabilitation, and provided with important guidance during the athlete's safe return-to-play or physical activity. We feel that a quality continuum of care is a vital component in the safety and quality of the academic and athletic experience at C-SC.
These services are available weekdays and some weekends during morning and afternoon hours. Student-athletes have access to the C-SC team physician for medical examination of both injuries and general illness once a week in the C-SC athletic training room at no expense. Additional diagnostic testing or referrals are at the expense of the student-athlete, and must follow appropriate insurance procedures (C-SC does not offer primary or secondary medical/accident insurance as this is the responsibility of the student-athlete). Transportation to and from medical appointments is also the responsibility of the student-athlete.
C-SC does offer an accredited athletic training education program. Athletic training students (ATS) provide medical care to student-athletes at C-SC, and have knowledge of sensitive health care information. However, services provided by an ATS are under the direct auditory/visual supervision of an ATC, and all athletic training students undergo annual in-service training and must acknowledge and sign medical confidentiality forms. Student-athletes at C-SC are welcome to pursue the education program as a major but should review the ATS/student-athlete policy.
